Privacy Policy
Effective Date: October 24, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how NTFSTool (“NTFSTool”, “we”, “us”) handles information when you visit our website (ntfstool.com) and when you use NTFSTool software (“Software”). Contact: service@ntfstool.com.
Information we collect
Software
NTFSTool is primarily a local utility. In most cases, it operates on your device without uploading your files or disk contents to our servers.
Operational Telemetry: To maintain license verification and troubleshoot filesystem stability, the software collects necessary non-personal technical data, including anonymous hardware identifiers, macOS build version, and error crash logs.
We do not inspect, collect, or monitor your personal files, private communications, or browsing history as part of this telemetry.
We do not seek to collect your personal files or disk contents. Logs you choose to share with support may contain file paths, volume names, or identifiers depending on your environment. Please review what you share before sending it.
NTFSTool Pro: diagnostics and detailed logs
NTFSTool Pro keeps a local activity log on your Mac. To find and fix problems quickly, it can also send the following to our servers. None of it includes the contents of your files.
- Diagnostic reports. When a drive fails to mount or the optional driver 2 has a problem, Pro saves a report on your Mac. It contains the app's recent activity log, recent macOS system log lines from our driver and the macOS file system service, the list of mounted drives, related process states, and crash reports of our driver. A compressed copy is uploaded (at most 3 per day).
- Reports attached to feedback. When you send feedback in the app, “Attach diagnostics” is checked by default and uploads a report like the one above with your message. Untick it to send only your message.
- Detailed logs during the launch period. Until January 31, 2027, Pro uploads once a day the new part of its activity log and the last 24 hours of system log lines from our driver. It runs automatically in the background and stops on its own after the launch period. To opt out sooner, email us from the address you used for feedback in the app (or tell us roughly when you installed it), and we will stop collection for your Mac; the app then never uploads these logs again.
These logs and reports are linked to an anonymous device identifier, not to your name or email (unless you include them in feedback). They may contain drive names, disk identifiers, mount paths, macOS version and Mac model, and occasionally file or folder names that appear in error messages. We use them only to diagnose and fix problems in NTFSTool. They are stored with our infrastructure provider (Cloudflare) and deleted within 12 months. To ask us to delete them sooner, email us from the address you used for feedback in the app (or tell us when you sent it) so we can find the matching records.
NTFSTool from the Mac App Store: diagnostics
The free NTFSTool app on the Mac App Store runs in the macOS App Sandbox. So that we can fix problems with reading and writing NTFS drives, it keeps a local activity log of the app and its file system extension, and sends the following to our servers. None of it includes the contents or names of your files, the names of your drives, or anything that identifies you; the app uses a random device ID that is not linked to your Apple Account.
- Diagnostic reports. When reading or writing a drive does not work (for example the drive stays read-only, fails to mount, or reports I/O errors), the app uploads a compressed report with its recent activity log, the extension's log, and the state of connected NTFS drives (type, size, connection, read/write state). At most 5 per day.
- Daily logs. Once a day the app uploads the new part of these logs.
- Reports you send. Help › Send Diagnostic Report… uploads the same report and shows a report number you can quote when you contact us.
You can turn off automatic uploads at any time in the app menu (NTFSTool › Share Diagnostic Information); logs then stay on your Mac. Uploaded logs are deleted automatically after 365 days.
