NTFSTool End User License Agreement (Installation Agreement)
Effective date: October 24, 2026 · Applies to NTFSTool Pro, the NTFSTool classic version and their helper components. The free NTFSTool app from the Mac App Store is licensed under Apple's Standard EULA, and sections 6–8, 10–16 of this Agreement also apply to it to the extent permitted.
Plain-language summary
- You can try NTFSTool on your own drive before paying. If it can't read and write your drive, or you ask within 45 days, you get a full refund.
- NTFSTool changes how your Mac accesses disks. Always keep a backup of data you can't afford to lose, and always eject a drive before unplugging it.
- Some features (Erase as NTFS, First Aid, removing a Windows hibernation file) change or delete data by design. They ask you to confirm first; what you confirm cannot be undone.
- The refund is our main promise to you. Beyond it, and to the extent the law allows, we are not liable for data loss or other damage.
This summary is for convenience. The full terms below are what apply.
1. Agreement
This End User License Agreement ("Agreement") is a legal agreement between you ("you") and the publisher of NTFSTool ("NTFSTool", "we", "us"). By downloading, installing, activating or using NTFSTool, including its helper tools, file system components, updates and documentation (together, the "Software"), you agree to this Agreement, our Terms of Service and our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, do not install or use the Software. If you use the Software for an organization, you confirm you are authorized to accept this Agreement on its behalf. You must be old enough to enter into a binding contract where you live, or have a parent's or guardian's consent.
2. License
Subject to this Agreement, we grant you a non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license for you and the members of your household to install and use the Software on Macs that you or they own or control.
- Free mounts. Without a license you may use the Software for a limited number of mounts (currently 3) to check that it works with your Mac and drive.
- Paid license. A paid license is a one-time purchase with no subscription. One license key covers the Macs in your household and may be activated up to 10 times (each new Mac, macOS reinstall or new user account counts once). Contact us if you need more. Keys that are shared publicly, resold or used outside your household are revoked.
- Lifetime updates. A paid license includes all updates and new major versions of NTFSTool that we release for as long as we develop and distribute it. Holders of NTFSTool 4.x licenses may use NTFSTool Pro under the same license. "Lifetime" refers to the life of the product, not of you or your Mac; it does not promise that every future macOS version or Mac model will be supported.
- We may change features, system requirements or the free-mount limit in future versions. Changes do not take away a license you have already bought.
3. Our guarantees and refunds
- 45-day money-back guarantee. You may request a full refund for any reason within 45 days of purchase by emailing service@ntfstool.com.
- Works-or-refund guarantee. If the Software cannot read and write your NTFS drive on your Mac after you have followed our support guidance, we refund you in full, including after the 45 days. We may ask you a few questions so we can confirm the problem and try to fix it first.
- Refunds are paid through the reseller you bought from, to the original payment method. After a refund the license key is revoked and can no longer be activated.
- We may refuse refunds where there is clear abuse, for example repeated purchase-and-refund cycles, fraud, or a payment dispute already opened for the same order. Please contact us before opening a dispute or chargeback; we usually answer within 48 hours.
- Refund as remedy. To the extent permitted by law, a refund of the price you paid is your sole and exclusive remedy if the Software does not work as described. This does not limit statutory rights that cannot be excluded (see section 13).
4. Your data and disks: important safety terms
The Software mounts, reads, writes, checks, repairs and erases file systems on storage devices. Storage is inherently risky, and many causes of data loss are outside our control. You agree that:
- Backups are your responsibility. Before using the Software, and regularly afterwards, keep at least one complete, tested backup of any data you cannot afford to lose. Do not keep the only copy of important data on a drive you use with the Software.
- Eject before unplugging. Always use Eject (in the Software or in Finder) and wait for it to finish before disconnecting a drive, putting your Mac to sleep with a drive attached, or shutting down. Disconnecting during a write can corrupt files or the file system.
- Windows Fast Startup and hibernation. NTFS drives last used by Windows with Fast Startup or hibernation may contain unsaved Windows state. Writing to such drives can cause loss of that state or of data. The Software mounts such drives read-only and explains why; removing the hibernation state is your decision.
- Causes outside our control. We are not responsible for data loss or damage caused by faulty or failing drives, cables, hubs, enclosures or power supplies; power loss; disconnection without ejecting; existing file system corruption; malware; other disk software or drivers (including other NTFS drivers, FUSE implementations or kernel extensions) running at the same time; or changes made by macOS, Windows or Apple.
- Unsupported storage. Drives encrypted with BitLocker, Windows dynamic disks, Storage Spaces, RAID sets and other special configurations may not work, or may work only read-only. Do not try to modify them with the Software.
- Not for critical uses. The Software is not designed or tested for use where failure could lead to death, injury, environmental damage, or significant financial or legal harm, such as medical, aviation, industrial-control or evidence-handling systems. For forensic or evidence work, use read-only mounting and a hardware write blocker.
5. Features that change or delete data
Some features are destructive by design: Erase as NTFS deletes everything on the selected drive or partition; First Aid / repair modifies file system structures to make a drive usable and may remove damaged or unrecoverable entries; removing a Windows hibernation file discards the saved Windows session. The Software asks you to confirm these actions and names the drive affected. By confirming, you accept that the result is permanent. Check the selected drive carefully and back up first.
6. System access and helper components
- To mount drives with write access, the Software needs administrator privileges. The first time, macOS asks for your Mac's login password. The Software stores it encrypted in your Keychain on your Mac only, uses it only to perform disk operations you request or have enabled (such as automatic mounting), and never sends it to us.
- Depending on your Mac, the Software may install or use helper components, such as a file system component (for example FUSE-T) or a macOS file system extension that you enable in System Settings. The current Software does not install a kernel extension and does not require you to change System Integrity Protection or lower your Mac's security settings. Older versions that used a kernel extension are covered by the terms that came with them.
- To remove the Software and its helper components, follow our uninstall guide. Removing the app alone may leave helper components installed.
7. Updates and internet use
The Software checks online for updates and verifies licenses. Some updates may be installed or offered automatically, and some may be required to keep using license features or to fix security or data-safety problems. Future versions of macOS, Apple hardware or Windows may change in ways that stop the Software from working; we will try to adapt but cannot guarantee compatibility. How we handle data is described in our Privacy Policy.
8. Third-party and open-source components
The Software includes or works with third-party components, including open-source software such as NTFS-3G and FUSE-T, which are licensed under their own terms (for example the GNU General Public License). Those licenses apply to those components, and nothing in this Agreement limits the rights they give you. Copies of the applicable notices are included with the Software or available from us on request.
9. Restrictions
Except as allowed by law or by an open-source license that applies to a component, you may not: copy, sell, rent, lease, sublicense or distribute the Software or license keys; share, publish or resell license keys or use them beyond the activations allowed; reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Software, or bypass, disable or tamper with license checks, update checks or safety checks; remove proprietary notices; or use the Software to access drives or data you are not authorized to access, or for any unlawful purpose.
10. Ownership and trademarks
The Software is licensed, not sold. We and our licensors keep all rights not expressly granted to you. NTFSTool and its logo are our trademarks. Apple, Mac, macOS, Finder and Apple Pay are trademarks of Apple Inc.; Windows and NTFS are trademarks of Microsoft Corporation; other names belong to their owners. NTFSTool is not affiliated with, sponsored by or endorsed by Apple, Microsoft or any other company mentioned on our website. Comparisons with other products describe publicly available information at the time of writing and may change.
11. Purchases
Purchases are processed by our authorized resellers, which act as the merchant of record and handle payment, invoices and applicable taxes (currently Payhip, Waffo and Creem for international orders, and our payment partner for mainland China). Prices may differ by country or region and may change, and promotions are limited in time; a later price change or promotion does not entitle you to a partial refund. See our Terms of Service for details.
12. Disclaimer of warranties
EXCEPT FOR THE GUARANTEES EXPRESSLY STATED IN SECTION 3, AND TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW, THE SOFTWARE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE", WITH ALL FAULTS AND WITHOUT WARRANTY OF ANY KIND. WE DISCLAIM ALL OTHER WARRANTIES AND CONDITIONS, EXPRESS, IMPLIED OR STATUTORY, INCLUDING WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY, SATISFACTORY QUALITY, FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE, ACCURACY, QUIET ENJOYMENT AND NON-INFRINGEMENT. WE DO NOT WARRANT THAT THE SOFTWARE WILL BE UNINTERRUPTED OR ERROR-FREE, THAT IT WILL WORK WITH EVERY DRIVE, MAC OR VERSION OF MACOS, OR THAT IT WILL NOT CAUSE LOSS OR CORRUPTION OF DATA. NO ADVICE OR INFORMATION FROM US CREATES ANY WARRANTY NOT EXPRESSLY STATED IN THIS AGREEMENT.
13. Limitation of liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY APPLICABLE LAW: (A) WE ARE NOT LIABLE FOR ANY LOSS, CORRUPTION OR UNAVAILABILITY OF DATA, COST OF DATA RECOVERY, LOSS OF PROFITS, REVENUE, BUSINESS OR GOODWILL, OR ANY INDIRECT, INCIDENTAL, SPECIAL, CONSEQUENTIAL, EXEMPLARY OR PUNITIVE DAMAGES, HOWEVER CAUSED AND UNDER ANY THEORY OF LIABILITY, EVEN IF WE WERE ADVISED OF THEIR POSSIBILITY; AND (B) OUR TOTAL LIABILITY FOR ALL CLAIMS RELATING TO THE SOFTWARE OR THIS AGREEMENT IS LIMITED TO THE AMOUNT YOU ACTUALLY PAID FOR YOUR LICENSE, OR US$25 IF YOU PAID NOTHING.
These limits apply even if a remedy fails of its essential purpose. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain warranties or liabilities to be excluded or limited. Nothing in this Agreement excludes or limits liability that cannot be excluded or limited by law, such as liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or your mandatory rights as a consumer under the laws of the country where you live.
14. Indemnity
To the extent permitted by law, you agree to indemnify us against claims, losses and costs (including reasonable legal fees) arising from your breach of this Agreement or your unlawful use of the Software, including accessing drives or data without authorization.
15. Term and termination
This Agreement applies until it ends. You may end it at any time by uninstalling the Software. We may suspend or terminate your license, by revoking the license key, if you materially breach this Agreement (for example by sharing or reselling keys, tampering with license checks, or fraud or chargeback abuse); in those cases no refund is due. We will notify you at the email used for the purchase, and you may reply to ask us to review the decision. Sections 4, 5 and 8–17 survive termination.
16. Export and sanctions
You may not use, export or re-export the Software in violation of applicable export-control or sanctions laws, or in or to countries, regions or persons subject to sanctions that prohibit it.
17. General
- Governing law. This Agreement is governed by the laws of the place where the publisher of NTFSTool is established, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, except where the mandatory consumer laws of your country of residence apply. The UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods does not apply.
- Disputes. Before starting any formal proceedings, please email us so we can try to resolve the issue informally within 30 days.
- Changes. We may update this Agreement for new versions or legal reasons. The version in effect when you install or update the Software applies to that version; material changes will be shown on this page with a new effective date.
- Entire agreement and severability. This Agreement, the Terms of Service and the Privacy Policy are the entire agreement about the Software. If any provision is held unenforceable, it will be limited to the minimum extent necessary and the rest remains in effect. Our failure to enforce a provision is not a waiver.
- Assignment. You may not transfer this Agreement or your license without our written consent. We may transfer it in connection with a sale or reorganization of the NTFSTool business.
- Language. If this Agreement is translated, the English version prevails.
